Le Maghreb des Films

Taking the opportunity offered by the film festival Maghreb des Films, two study days on the 15th and 16th of November 2010 were dedicated to the image of the North African in French cinema and TV. Génériques and le Maghreb des Films have organized an original encounter between researchers and film makers in order to give space for analysis and academic reflexions.

Whether a scum, an inner city hero or more recently a policeman, the North African figure is always animated by various representations. If academic research has clearly highlighted the use of the North African figure in French fiction, it also has to measure the influence filmmakers or screenwriters from North African origins have in contemporary cinema.
